On Tuesday, December 17, a group of scientists, involved in five projects funded by the ATTRACT consortium (GRANT, HYPERTERA, ROTOR, T-CONVERSE and TACTICS are their acronyms) gathered in the Palazzo del Colleggio Puteano in Pisa, hosted at Scuola Normale Superiore with the support of CNR – Istituto Nanoscienze, NEST Lab.
ATTRACT is a European consortium funded by the EU (GA777222), which aims to create a co-innovation ecosystem between fundamental research and industrial communities. The goal, in particular, is to develop breakthrough detection and imaging technologies for scientific and commercial uses.
The purpose of the meeting was to find a point of contact between different funded projects focused on the THz radiation based emerging technologies. THz radiation is a safe and non-destructive portion of the electromagnetic spectrum with a strong potential in different daily applications, from food to health, from crop monitoring to civil engineering. However, today, a convenient detection and imaging technology for the use of this radiation is still lacking, as agreed by the scientists at the meeting.
Researchers from 6 European countries (Austria, Belarus, Finland, Spain and Italy) discussed their projects and presented the latest results. The meeting was the beginning of a new collaboration between a team with different expertise, from astrophysics to nanotechnology. At the meeting they illustrated a portfolio of innovative approaches which will lead to technological applications for basic research and innovative industrial plants. The team set the starting common goals, that, with the support of the ATTRACT consortium, will contribute to the growth of European economy and enter into everyday life with new products, services, companies and jobs.
